The solar eclipse of August 21, 2017 generated a huge amount of interest from schoolchildren and the public across the country and UCSB ScienceLine was ready to respond. Beginning with a Washington Post article in June (Washington Post online, June 30, 2017) the ScienceLine website saw an increase in queries about solar phenomena and eclipses throughout the summer, peaking in as many as two million database requests on August 21. Interest has continued since the start of of the new school year, with an increase in both new questions and queries to the ScienceLine database since the eclipse.
